OUR HOME STREAM PAGE
Our chapter has adopted the East Verde River just North of Payson, Arizona as our home stream. This stream flows from the bottom of a 1500 foot high escarpment called the Mogollon Rim which is North of Payson and features a large spring and is a viable trout stream for about 15 miles as it flows downstream before the water gets too warm for trout habitat. This stream has a population of wild Rainbow Trout as well as Arizona Native Headwater Chubs, and depending upon water flow and temperature, it is stocked with Gila Trout. Our Chapter works closely with Arizona Game and Fish Department and the local US Forest Service Office to continuously make this stream a viable trout fishery. In addition to providing labor and materials, we regularly fund raise (see our Souvenirs for Donations Page) to provide extra dollars to increase production of Gila Trout, once native to our area from our local hatchery.
